NAT: round-ups against Tajiks in Russia are reminiscent of Nazi treatment of Jews and prisoners of war

The National Alliance of Tajikistan lodges a strong protest with the authorities of Russia and Tajikistan concerning the egregious crimes committed against the citizens of Tajikistan residing in Russia.

Recently the Russian authorities have initiated an unannounced but focused campaign of extensive police raids targeting citizens of Tajikistan. This concerning situation is further exacerbated by complete silence and inaction of the Emomali Rahmon’s regime.

These raids are conducted with a deliberate humiliation of human and national dignity, intentional and demonstratively brutal infliction of injuries and damage on Tajik students in their dormitories and Tajik workers at their workplaces.

These repressive actions closely resemble the deplorable practices employed by the Nazis in their treatment of Jews and prisoners of war, reflecting a disturbing parallel to history’s darkest chapters.

It is important to note that the citizens of Tajikistan, including students and labor migrants, reside, study and work in Russia legally, in full compliance with the visa-free regime and other permission documents established by the government of the Russian Federation for citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

We demand the Russian authorities immediately cease the disgusting and unacceptable for a self-respecting country lawlessness against the citizens of Tajikistan and the gross violation of human rights.

We demand the Emomali Rahmon’s regime find the remaining of national dignity in themselves and protect their citizens who are in fact the breadwinners of the country, return every willing citizen to their homeland, provide them with jobs and thereby save them from forced mobilization and meaningless death in the war against Ukraine.

Responsibility for the humiliation, suffering and death of the citizens of Tajikistan is equally shared by the Emomali Rahmon’s authoritarian regime and the Russian authorities.
